Lipitor Warnings
Notify your physician or pharmacists if you have had liver or kidney disease, low blood pressure, seizures or a severe infection. Additionally, always inform your health care professional if you are pregnant or become pregnant while taking Lipitor. If you become pregnant while taking Lipitor medication, stop taking the drug and contact your physician immediately.
Before taking Lipitor you must inform your physician or pharmacist if you have any allergies – especially if you have an allergy to atorvastatin, Lipitor’s active ingredient. Ensure you also inform your physician or pharmacist about any other medications or vitamins you are currently taking or plan on taking while on Lipitor.
Lipitor may cause your skin to become sensitive to sunlight, thus you should limit the amount of time spent in direct sunlight. You can also take preventative measures such as using sunscreen, clothing covering most of your body (including a hat) to reduce the chance of skin irritation.
If you plan on having dental surgery preformed while taking Lipitor, inform your dentist you are taking this medication prior to the surgery.
Avoid consuming alcohol while taking Lipitor as it is known to heighten the chance of Lipitor side effects.
Lipitor, Pregnancy and breast-feeding
Do not take Lipitor while pregnant. If you become pregnant while taking Lipitor, stop taking the drug immediately and consult your doctor. Studies show the use of Lipitor while pregnant can harm a fetus. Additionally, the use of Lipitor while breast-feeding is not recommended, as the results of doing so are undetermined and may be harmful to the infant.
Lipitor Storage
Always keep Lipitor and any other prescription drug out of the reach of children. Lipitor should be stored at room temperature and away from moist places such as the kitchen and bathroom. Ensure proper disposal of any medication which is outdated or no longer being taken.
